Hickory Ridge Deer Fly Chase – October 1 – Save the Date

by Noah on August 1, 2011

Racers -

Work is underway to present the first-ever off-road mountain bike race at Hickory Ridge, on Saturday, October 1, 2011.

Here is what we know so far:

Two courses, plus a tour:  Long (about 24 miles), Short (about 15 miles).

The racers will be subjected to dirt roads, ski trails, and singletrack over a rocky, hilly, picturesque route.

And no, the deer flies will not really be chasing you!

So, SAVE THE DATE!  Post your comments here, or on FACEBOOK.

—–   More logisitics and details to come. —–

Here is a video of some of the terrain included in the race.

Wow! Hickory Ridge has the best biking terrain anywhere in the state. Count me in. The trails are getting great reviews from us “mud ducks” over in Minnesota.

This should be a lot of fun! Loving the fact there are more local events.

It’ll be my first time at Hickory. Should I do the 24 or 15 miles?

Well it depends on what kind of shape you are in, I only put the descents in my video because who wants to watch a video of someone slowly climbing a hill? Hickory is a lot more challenging of a pedal than Lowes Creek or Lebanon Hills. Nice hills going up and down, various roots and rocks to deal with, but nothing too technical.

I am very excited about the positive response. We met today to discuss the route and planning. So long as the powers-that-be do not object to the route, we have something very special planned. I have not experienced a race with tight rocky challenging singletrack, hilly ski trails, and bat-out-of-hell gravel descents, and a lung burner climb or two – - so those that participate are in for a great experience. The fall colors should be spectacular too. And so far as cost, most of you have enough in your wallet right now to cover your entry. More to come, stay tuned….

yeah know, this is going to be the next big marathon race. You watch, it will get big. I’m thinking 50 mile loop someday with singletrack, doubletrack, gravel road, beaver dam, everything. It’s gonna be sweet!

I’m in for 24 miles!
