Well, this is some pretty big news that we’re excited to share. As you probably know, every winter CORBA holds a little snowshoe race at Lowes Creek County Park. Yes, we’re a mountain bike club, but we’ve got a lot of members that branch out into other sports in the wintertime, and the trails our volunteers build and maintain are used by hikers, trail runners and snowshoers. The Powder Keg Snowshoe Race allows us to cater to our non-cycling trail users, builds awareness and support for our club and raises funds for trail development and operations.
Several months back CORBA began working with Visit Eau Claire and the Eau Claire Sports Commission on a bid to host the 2015 U.S. National Snowshoe Championships. At the championship event in Vermont last weekend, it was officially announced that our bid was chosen over several other cities that had applied. We’re stoked, and we’re inviting each of you to save the date and join us February 27-March 1 for a weekend of snowshoe racing.
There will be snowshoe events for everyone, including the senior and junior championship races, an open-to-all citizens run/walk, a kids’ race and more. More details will be posted to this site and our Facebook page in the coming months.
To those racers, volunteers and sponsors who have supported the Powder Keg in the past, thank you! We hope you’ll join us on the trails for this great event.
