CORBA is has been asked (and is considering) to take over the Rumble in the Jungle Snowshoe race that is held at Lowes Creek County Park. The event date is Jan 29th. We are looking for feedback from the group on interest in helping, thoughts, or other ideas…. please share what you think, thanks! Lowes Creek is needing a little work on many of the trails so we’re having a Trail Work Day on Sunday, August 22nd at 2pm.  Meet at the West parking lot (the main lot) with shovels, pulaski’s, rakes and loppers.  CORBA will have some adult beverages to follow the trail work.  The more the merrier! 

CORBA would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to Chris and Leslie from IMBA… the Subaru Trail Care Crew team who worked with us at Hickory Ridge this past weekend.  The trail school, trail building and riding were great!  Thank you to Spring Street Sports for sponsoring a large portion of their visit and also we hope everyone who attended had a blast. Noah did an amazing job with putting it all together and his wife worked to provide a perfect lunch on Saturday!  Here’s to more trails!  Watch for a Hickory Group Ride date this Fall…

An IMBA crew is coming to the area, to provide education and work on the trails at Hickory Ridge,  in August.  Mark your calendars and plan on attending this cool event.

Thank you to all of the volunteers, mountain bike racers and trail runners who came out this weekend for the Firecracker!  The rain held off for the most part to give us another good year of race weather.  We welcomed 742 mountain bikers and 72 trail runners – both higher numbers than last year!  We’ll be posting a volunteer thank you event shortly.

Last call for volunteers!  If you can spare some time this weekend please come out and help with the Firecracker.  We are especially in need of volunteers for the Rock N Roll To Go Fun Zone.   These activities are FREE to everyone so this could be your chance to win “brownie points” with your kids…. they can play and you volunteer for a few hours (and get a tshirt)!  Thanks!

Calling all trail workers…. Saturday, July 3rd there will be a trail day at Lowes Creek.  There is a new section of trail that will be built on the West side of the park, need it ready for the Firecracker. The plan is to meet at 7am or 9am, depending how early or late everyone wants to sleep in! We will be close to the parking lot in the ravine near ReBench.  We will be doing clearing so saws and loppers are needed for anyone showing up at 7.  Dirt tools for anyone after that.  Majority of work will be finishing work as we will be using the mini x for the bulk of the work.

There is also plenty of trimming that needs to happen along all of the trails…this rain is making EVERYTHING grow like crazy!  No trimming of OAK however due to the risk of Oak Wilt.

The Sixth Annual Firecracker is less than a month away and we will need your help to make this another great event!
There will be camping, Friday night ride, a pasta feed, incredible breakfast, pre-riding, Race Across the Sky movie night, Rock N Roll to go play area and many race options!

The Firecracker brings riders and racers from the Midwest and it is the major fundraiser for CORBA.  Each year we use the the proceeds from the Firecracker to bring YOU more trails, trail building equipment, maps and signage.  Please take a few minutes to look over the volunteer opportunities and sign up to help out the weekend of July 10th – 11th. Thank you to all of the volunteers who shared some weekend time in recognition of National Trails Day 2010.  CORBA hosted events at both Lowes Creek County Park and at the NW Park in Eau Claire.   A total of 70 volunteer hours were logged!  Progress was made on the switchbacks at the NW Park using the Mini-X and riders at Lowes Creek will appreciate the trimming of branches during their next ride.  A black bear was spotted helping out at Lowes Creek so keep your eyes peeled for this additional wildlife!  Thanks again!
