Every July, mountain bikers, trail runners and spectators swarm the trails of Lowes Creek County Park for the Chippewa Valley Firecracker races. Started in 2005, the Firecracker quickly became one of the biggest events in the Wisconsin Off-Road Series (WORS), and is now one of the premier racing venues in the state. Eight to nine hundred registered racers of all abilities participate, coming from throughout the upper Midwest and beyond.
The highlight of the Firecracker is the course itself. Expect a perfect mix of tight, technical singletrack and lightning-fast doubletrack. It’s a recipe for fun, garnished with trail feature highlights like the switchbacks of Onion, the creek crossings of Rad and Skull, and the seemingly endless rock garden of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. WORS racers consistently rate Lowes Creek as one of their favorite courses in the series, and new twists each year only add to the enjoyment.

It’s not all about the race, though. The event grounds at the Eau Claire County Expo Center host a variety of activities throughout the weekend for riders and their family and friends. Bring the whole crew and spend the weekend enjoying:
- On-site Camping
- Pasta Feed and Breakfast (at a bargain price!)
- Kid’s fun zone and face painting
- Evening Bonfires and Outdoor Movie
- Vendor Tents and Concessions
- Learn-to-Race Clinic and Kid’s Race (age 10 and under)
- Prize Drawings and lots of SWAG
The Chippewa Off-Road Bike Association is responsible for organizing the Firecracker and bringing the WORS series to the Chippewa Valley. Proceeds from the event help fund local trails and mountain bike advocacy efforts.
