Sorry I missed your post on this Kenny.  We were about as active as a bag of hammers this weekend too.  Oh well.  That being said….anyone intersted in getting out this Sunday for a Kids Ride?

Thats where I was. There was one car there. I might have been a couple minutes late. We must have just missed each other. We did just about every trail on the east side of the creek so how we missed each other is beyond me. Well we'll try again next time.

I wonder if we were at the same place.  My boys and I showed up about 1:15 and did a quick loop on the double track that goes around Dazed, Pines and Twister.  Then back to the trail entrance.  We got back there at 1:30 and waited until 1:35 then they were anxious and we rolled out.  We parked at the parking area near the east gate. The actual Lowes Creek Parking Area. Were you near the gate at Action City?  There were no other cars by mine, even when we left.  We rode for about an hour.

That's why next time I'm just going to do it at the west parking lot, the one by the pump track.  As soon as I got there I was wondering if that was going to cause confusion.  It seems it did.

Arlen,

I was at the entrance to the park at the expo center at 1:30 with my kids an I didn't see anybody. We waited for about 5 minutes an then went riding. I don't know how we could have missed you guys. We were out there riding for a long time.

Mixed success on the first kids group ride.  My boys and I made it out there, but other than accidentally running across the Dean's we didn't see any other kids at the expo at 1:30 or elsewhere in the woods.  Perhaps Mother's Day interrupted getting out???

Anyway – I have a busy next few weeks, and the summer for that matter, but I'm going to fit in kids rides the best I can with two group rides a month being the minimum goal.

Next Sunday, weather permitting, 5/16 at Lowes Creek West Parking Lot at 1:30.  Perhaps we missed some people who went to that lot instead.

I see no reason not to ride.  My boys and I will be there… unless it's raining.

I'm activating this topic again.  Time to start think about getting the kids out.

This weekend is shot for me and I was kindly informed that the next Sunday is the Eau Claire Marathon, so I'm thinking let's start the first official kids group ride on May 9th.  I think the time we ended up with was 1:30.

Hope to see a bunch of kids there.  Tell everyone you know.  Maybe I can get the CORBA admins get an e-mail blast out in a week or so.

I've talked to a dozen or so parents I know and all the feedback I've gotten is that a 1:30 time at Lowes Creek on a Sunday would pose no problems for them.  Some would prefer earlier, some would prefer a little later, but 1:30 would work.  It's after chruch, Sunday School, lunch, and well before dinner time.  Also, I'm not saying I've got a dozen riders locked in, only they'd be available if they were so inclined.

So without any further comments on this topic and the outdoor expos coming up I'm going to lock in a time of 1:30 on Sunday for the Kids Group Ride.

So all you riders out there, tell the paretns you know about the ride.  Encourage them to get their kids out there.  I'm figuring, hoping, we'll be out there by May 2nd.

Laura – will you keep us updated on possible DQ or CORBA sponsored treats?

I was not aware of a DQ over there.  That would be cool.  It probably does make sense to start the kids ride on the expo side of the park anyway.  You can link up a lot of nice twisty, yet flat trails over there.  Very good for beginners and those on bmx style bikes.

I believe CORBA could sponsor some icecream treats!  Also, did you know there is a DQ now at Metropolis/Action City?  I'll see what I can do for a sponsorship for the Kids Rides!

I think 1:30 is good.  Gives people time to have lunch before coming out, doesn't interfere with church, doesn't force people to get up too early.  I agree with what Arlen said about Sunday evenings.  Oh, and I think ending the rides with a cooler full of ice cream treats would go a long way toward building ridership among the whippersnapper demographic.

Yes, I'll be posting on the kiosk at the park; someone would have to help me out with Volume One.  Jereme also indicaed he would post in his salons around town that reach a lot of kids.

I'll post at my bulliten board here at work.  Any other ideas?

Anyone else have any input on day or time?  I'd like to have this dialed in by the end of April so there still is time.

The 1:30 time frame matches what I've heard from families who ride with younger kids…. will you be posting on Volume One and doing some signs for the kiosk at the park?  We have some water bottles that could be donated :)

Just talked to a church going friend of mine. He says that by the time he gets home, gets his kids fed and out the door again it would be between 1 and 1:30 before they could realistically be anywhere in town.

So let's use 1:30 as are arguing point now. Laugh

I don't go…when does church typically start and end?  How early do you have to go riding to be able to go to church too?  Anything before 9-10 and I'm guessing no one would ever show up.  Same thing with 5pm, weekends are starting to wind down.  People are thinking about dinner, preparing for the new week.  I think between 12 -3 is our best option.  But if I'm the minority I can certainly be swayed.

Also, I thought the hottest part of the day was between 3 and 5 pm?  Plus, in the woods around Lowes Creek I don't recall it being that bad.  Although, I grew up in 110 degree weather, it never seems that hot to me here.

For reference, the age group I'm taking out would be 5 and 8 year old.  One on a trail-a-bike.  They don't do anything before 9 on weekends.

Keep the thoughts coming!
