For anyone interested I've been able to pencil in another couple of hours to go to NWCP and finish clearing the corridor on Saturday.  But it's early.  6:30 to 8:15am.  I'm hoping to get to the top.  Dean and I didn't quite make it last week.

Might need to bring lights if you come, I think it's still a bit dark that early.

Today we got started at NW park, officially.  Jereme, Arlen, Mark and myself headed out to start marking the first section of trail.  We probably got about a 1/4 mile marked.  Once built it should be a lot of fun with rolling terrain, a few rocks to work around and the usual trees to fly by.  There is actual elevation to work with there so it should be a lot of fun flying down the hills.  Hoping to get out this next week to do more marking.  After that we can start doing some actual work.  The ground seemed frozen in a few spots yet so it will be a little while before we start turning over some dirt.

Hey guys,

A couple of us are going out on Saturday to start flagging the first trail scheduled for construction.  I don't have a ton of time so I don't anticipate being out there for more than an hour and half.  It will probably be wet and damp so dress accordingly.  No tools needed.  This is also a good chance to get an idea of what the terrain is like at the park.  We will meet at the end of Van Es parkway at 10:15.  To get there turn north on Jeffers road, right into the development, right again at the stop sign, left on Van Es.  Park at the end.  e-mail me with questions.  cmanthe@hotmail.com

We didn't go out to work on the trails yet.  I need to set a schedule for this spring and summer.  I'll probably try to get a time set (maybe in the next week or so)  to get out and check out the terrain around the park so people can get familiar with it.  The first work will be design, layout and flagging.  I was stuck in my house this weekend redoing the bathroomYell

I think a weeknight might work well for some people.  I would like to get one night every week or every two weeks scheduled for people that have a tough time making it on the weekends.

I'm in.  Saturday morning will work for me until mid April to late April when soccer starts back up.  After that I don't know.  I can see myself going out there on a weeknight with my son and working for an hour or two moving debris or dirt.  Since I'm only 5 minutes away I could justify such a short time a couple days a week.

Anyway – I'm super excited and motivated to get this thing going!

It's official!!  We get to start building trail at NW park!!  Two years of groundwork, now it's go time.  I'm going to develop a trailwork schedule for the summer for both Lowes Creek and NW park.  I would like to meet with people in a week or so to walk NW park.  I have a map with trails drawn all over that we can work from.  We will be able to start flagging that first day.  I'm thinking a saturday morning.  The area we are going to start in is south facing so we should be able to get to work fairly soon.  I hope everyone is super excited, this area will be a great addition to Eau Claire trails.  Let me know who is interested.

I meet with Phil Fieber today to set up a schedule for trail construction at Northwest Park.  My hope is to get going in March with flagging trail.  Once the snow clears, we will be able to start clearing trail corridors and then once the ground dries we can start moving dirt.  After two years this project may actually get going!!  (meetings, e-mails, meetings, waiting…) If anyone would like to get more involved in this process let me know.  There is a lot of trail to be built and it will be good to have some trail crew leaders that can lead trail crews.
